 1) Is this manual available in software form?

The manual is only available in written form. However, the mechanical estimate outlines can be incorporated into any software programs that produces estimates such as used in Alldata or Mitchell and like programs. Just follow the EGSS manual format from the written outlines for the specific repair estimate and type it into the estimating/repair order program. The manual also proves to be handy especially for those with no computer knowledge and who prefer hand-written estimates. Also, the manual covers marketing & managing strategy information- priceless information that no shop should be without.

2)
Is this manual a flat rate labor time provider?

While the manual is NOT a flat rate labor time provider, it does give suggestions for additional labor time for repairs in conjunction with the main repair. It is designed to enhance the use of your flat rate labor times and to make better and more profitable estimates and to setup a marketing strategy for more sales. The estimate outlines allow for editing how to find the labor time in your flat rate labor time provider for a specific repair as well as what is needed to do the job (parts & labor) and what might be sold in addition to the repair. This is a handy item for hiring estimators with little or no experience at great savings in salaries. See: Sample Page 1 & FAQ #24

3)
I already have flat rate labor schedules and repair manuals, why do I need this?

The EGSS manual is not to take the place of your flat rate labor schedules or your repair manuals but is designed to enhance their use- make you more profit. It will aid you in marketing and making your estimates (experienced or not), managing your shop, and helping mechanics to make better repairs. One of the main strategies is how to give a competitive phone estimate to phone shoppers so that you can get them into your shop and sell them more profitable repairs in conjunction with their request- specifically the when & how-to. The EGSS manual also addresses advertising methods (marketing) that will prompt customers to call you. See:
FAQ #24

7)
Can this manual help me with managing & marketing my business?

The EGSS manual was specifically designed to do just that. Those that have implemented the marketing & managing strategies generally see an immediate increase of  20% - 40% in sales and/or profits- even in highly completive areas. See:
Much More Than an Estimate Assistant , Samples page information therein & Estimate Guide & Shop Strategist (EGSS) Manual Testimonials located at the bottom portion of that page. Also, see: FAQ #24

8) Can you make estimates with no mechanical knowledge or experience ?

Absolutely! This was one of the main reasons for the written format of the estimate outlines, which can aid both novice and expert alike in making profitable and consistent estimates- as well as setting up a profitable sales strategy. In fact, some have hired personnel with NO mechanical or estimating experience and within a few days were able to make consistent, profitable estimates. This can be a great savings to shop owners not having to hire experienced service writers. See:
The Manual Contains Information On, Samples page information therein & FAQ #24.

9)
Can this manual organize my shop?

Yes. Following the instructions and implementing the system will automatically organize any shop. The main thing is implementation. The instruction
manual outlines the procedure. For example, there's the Forms Folder (See
Samples page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual") designed to coordinate all involved: mechanics, service writers, managers, etc. Besides this, the how-to of the system is detailed in simple terms.

10)
Can this manual help get phone-shoppers into my shop and make profitable sales?

The EGSS manual directly addresses this strategy. This may be a controversial subject to many shop owners, but the strategy is simple. The EGSS manual outlines the marketing strategy that has been tried and proven in real mechanical repair shops. In fact, the strategy is one that you often succumb to when making purchases- even if you happen to be most frugal. See:
Benefits & Sample Page 1

11)
How does this manual help mechanics reduce comebacks?

Comebacks can eat up a shop's profits and put you out of business quickly- if not kept under control. The Forms Folder contains diagnostic sheets that can prevent misdiagnosis. See:
Sample Page 2 and the info therein, including: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual." Also, when the EGSS system is properly executed , it will coordinate the mechanics and service writers- resulting in more profitable and efficient repairs- and instigate better communications with customers.

12)
How does this manual help prevent litigation problems?

In the highly complex automotive business, misunderstandings can cause litigation problems. For example, the Forms Folder has a specific form called the Release Form, designed to protect you from litigation when the customer declines recommended proper repairs and then tries to hold you responsible when failure occurs due to such (See
Samples page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual"). In addition, there are other forms that will help prevent litigation problems. See Much More Than an Estimate Assistant.

13)
How can this manual help me effectively advertise?

Advertising can make or break any company. The automotive repair business is no exception. The EGSS manual outlines methods for getting your phone to ring through effective advertising methods (marketing) and how to get the phone-shopper into your shop. In fact, the estimates incorporate this strategy into the outlines and the instruction manual reveals how to make advertising work for you. It addresses which advertisements work and which ones do not. The (marketing) advertising strategies are not guesswork, but tried and proven in real mechanical repair shop businesses. They don't originate from so-called marketing experts who have never run an automotive repair shop.

14)
How can this manual help experienced service writers & mechanics?

Just because you have been doing mechanical work and making estimates for many years, doesn't mean there's no room for improvement. When you purchase the EGSS manual, you are putting 40 years of hands-on experience on your side. Someone who has been down the road- back and forth- from the school of hard knocks. For example, you can hire 3 experienced service writers and all of them will have their own idea as to what's needed to do the repair job right. For example, some may overlook additional selling items in conjunction with the repair; while others may overlook needed items that should have been quoted initially, resulting in repeated and annoying calls to the customer for approval. The EGSS manual takes the guesswork out of it all- no matter how long you've been doing it. Likewise with mechanical repairs. Some technicians may overlook important test steps when making repairs or diagnosis. These can cost the shop much money in comebacks and possible litigation. The EGSS manual not only provides diagnostic procedures, it provides ways to sell other repairs in conjunction with the needed or requested repair- often overlooked by both service writers and mechanics. The best part about it, some of these tests that you charge the customer for require no special tools and generate high-profit repairs. See:
Sample Page 2 and the info therein, including: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual."

15)
How durable is the construction of this manual for a repair shop environment?

The EGSS manual is constructed of a flexible heavy poly snap ring binder, which is virtually indestructible, and all pages are protected by a glare-free sheet protector (pages are removable from both binder and protector). All pages are in two colors (black & red) and are printed on extra heavy grade white paper stock for editing and erasing purposes.

16)
How can this manual help me sell simple tests that result in profitable repairs?

The EGSS manual has forms that outline step-by-step procedures to help you sell tests that will make you more profit. These forms come with the manual and are contained in what's called the Forms Folder. See:
Sample Page 2 and the info therein, including: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual."

18)
How do I know that this manual will work for me?

The EGSS manual will work in all automotive/light truck mechanical repair facilities and has been in use in the USA and other countries for more than 5 years. The only thing that will keep the system from working for you is the failure to initiate it. For such a little investment, even if you only use the Forms Folder or the marketing strategy, it will pay for itself many times over.  See
Sample page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual" and Much More Than an Estimate Assistant .

19)
Can I use this manual in my heavy duty truck mechanical repair shop?

The EGSS manual's estimate outlines are designed for use in automotive & light truck mechanical repair shop facilities. However, the marketing & managing system can be implemented in any mechanical repair shop. The manual covers not only estimating but marketing & managing; thus, any one of the categories' information is worth the nominal cost of the manual.

20)
Can I use this manual in my body shop?

The EGSS manual is for automotive and light truck mechanical repair shop facilities. Unless the body shop also performs mechanical repairs, the manual's information would not be applicable.

21) What are the flat rate paths for editing mentioned in the instructions?

The EGSS manual's instructions outlines penciling in flat rate paths for specific mechanical labor operations, such as when looking up flat rate labor times in Alldata, Mitchell, etc. When one does so, he first has to look in the main path (or heading) for that operation, then follow through to the specific labor time operation (subheading) for the labor time. For example, if you look up in Alldata the labor time for a "cylinder head gasket" job you would first look in "Engine," then find "Cylinder Head Gasket." Each step is a path to the labor time you want. These paths (or headings & subheadings) are easy to find for experience service writers, mechanics, and estimators. However, for novice use and training, the editable paths in the estimate outlines need to be filled in according to the paths or headings that relate to your specific flat rate labor provider. This will allow any novice to find the labor time for an estimate. See:
Sample Page 1 and take note of the blank spaces on the right side of the estimate outline, defined by the red statement which reads: "Editable Flat Rate path for novice use" located near the top center of the page right under the words "In Shop."

22) Can I copy any portion of this manual?

The EGSS manual is a copywrite publication. This means no portion of the manual can be copied or reproduced as doing so would be an infringement. However, if you have purchased the manual and need to reproduce a page due to damage, you may do so for your own personal use. It is not to be sold or past to another person for use.

23) How long has this manual been in circulation?

The EGSS manual has been in use as a copywrite publication for over 5 years. Prior to this, the manual took ten years to develop and refine into a proven, workable system. The manual is used by many automotive/light truck mechanical repair shops throughout the USA and other countries.

24) What is the purpose of the estimate outlines and what are the benefits? *

The mechanical repair estimate outlines are for the purpose of aiding both novice and professionals alike in making profitable and consistent mechanical repair estimates. The estimate outlines cover 98% of the most requested mechanical repairs in written form and are indexed for quick reference. Virtually all guesswork is eliminated.
See: Sample Page 1 and the info under: "Estimate Guide & Shop Strategist (EGSS) Manual," & "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual." These estimates are so thorough in their coverage, that a person with no mechanical experience can make a professional and profitable estimate as long as they can read. This has several benefits for a shop owner, namely enabling him to hire anyone (less salaried employee) to make estimates without constant assistance. This is particularly beneficial when setting up the marketing strategy outlined in the instruction manual for getting the phone to ring- that is, getting customers to call YOU for an estimate. Subsequently, with such a response, there will be a need for hiring more personnel to answer the phone and make estimates. The outlines can assist even the most experienced estimator as well.

25) What is a "Page Number Estimate?"

The instruction manual makes reference to "Page Number Estimates" and defines this therein. These are estimates outlines that are listed in the Estimate Guide Index that refer the estimator to a specific page number for the estimate outline– mainly because they are more extensive in detail. Unlike the "Quick Reference Estimates," in which the estimate outline is written within the Estimate Guide Index, these do not refer to a specific page number for the estimate outline because these are less extensive in detail.
(See Samples page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual"

26) What is a "Quick Reference Estimate?"

The instruction manual makes reference to "Quick Reference Estimates" and defines this therein. These are estimate outlines that are listed in the Estimate Guide Index that do not refer to a page number for the estimate outline details, but are found right within the Estimate Guide Index itself– mainly because they are less detailed than the "Page Number Estimates" which refer to a page number for the estimate outline details.
(See Samples page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual")

27) What is an "In-Shop Estimate?"

The instruction manual makes reference to "In-Shop Estimates" and defines this therein. These are estimates generated within the shop. For example, these are customers that dropped off their vehicle and asked you to perform a specific repair without a pre-requested estimate. Such repairs are from customers that know your good work and honesty and are not shopping prices as is the case with "Competitive Estimates."
(See Samples page under: "There Are 5 Main Parts to The EGSS Manual"

28) What is a "Competitive Estimate?"

The instruction manual makes reference to "Competitive Estimates" and defines this therein. These are estimates that customers shop around for over the phone in particular. They are looking for the very best price they can find. In some cases, they may stop by for the estimate. In any case, they are shopping for the most competitive price for the repair. The estimate outlines and instructions detail how to cater to such ones so that you can get them into your shop and what the advantages are after doing so.
