Fishing in Upper Cook Inlet out of Ninilchik, Alaska for King Salmon & Halibut. The 2nd run of King Salmon are now up the river but the fishing for halibut is great. Most catches for fish 25-40 lbs is 13 miles offshore in 125 feet water depth. Tides are best now so wonder out further if looking for a hog, weather permitting. We have had 25-35 knot winds for the last two days so the charter fleet has been grounded. Be also aware that it is now the time of summer when the Spiny Dog Fish enters the Inlet and these little sharks can be quite a pain but they do inter-mix with halibut, be patient. A 303lb halibut was weighed in at my Sport Shop on August 1st and the following day in Homer, Alaska a 346 lb halibut was weighed in and leading the derby there. Here in Ninilchik a 200 lb. halibut is leading the derby. Stay tuned for fishing tips on catching the big one in the near future.
