Lots of bass fishing in Delacroix Island right now with this springlike pattern

Not much has changed over the past couple of weeks, we are still pitching worms like a 9 inch Super Ringer or 11 inch Hog Wild in colors of red shad(stained water) or plum(clearer water). A 1/4 oz. weight in most situations has been working well but once it gets hot with a bright sun I have sometimes had to go to a heavy 3/4 oz. weight and punch it through the deeper(5-7 ft.) heavily matted grass.
We have also been catching them on a Pork Shad(fluke) in watermelon and junebug(stained water) colors. Bayou Bullfrogs during the heat of the day have been working good too.
Good numbers of smaller kentucky and largemouth bass on the Big Cypress above the Gov't Ditch using shallow diving Bandits and Pop-r's has been working at times early in the day too. Water temps are ranging from 85 to 92 degrees.

Water temps have been ranging from 78 early in the day to 83 later in the day. The lake is a little low and on a slow fall. A Cyclone Lightning Blade has been working pretty decent on the cypress trees in 1-3 ft. of water. The grass fish have been coming on a V&M Pork Shad(super fluke) in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged watermelon candy/chartreuse tail High Tails(brushhog) pitched around boat docks have working pretty good. The Bayou Bullfrogs in colors of watermelon or black will catch bass from the heavy matted grass and duckweed mix also.

Water temps have been ranging from 63 early in the day to 69 later in the day. The lake is 2 ft. low, but stable. The bass are beginning to get more aggressive as the water cools and they will only get better with time. Most of the bass have come out of the grass and pad mix using a V&M Pork Shad(super fluke) in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged watermelon candy/chartreuse tail High Tails(brushhog) pitched along the edges of the creeks and on the cypress trees are working well. We have really caught some nice sized bass this past week, including several 5-7 lb. bass.http://jerrylabella.com/discus/clipart/wink.gif

Bass fishing is great right now. With the cooler water temps the bass are just now beginning their fall feeding frenzy and can be caught on a variety of lures from topwaters to Texas rigged worms. The bass bite has gotten better over the last week and will only get better over the next days and weeks to come. Find the roaming shad along the vegetation and the bass will be nearby. My largest this past week went 8.33 using a Shad colored V&M Pork Shad. Clients caught 7 bass this past week over 6lb. up to 8lb along with many other quality sized bass. Water temps have been ranging from 56 early in the day to 61 later in the day. The lake levels are stabile and 1.5 to 2 ft. low. The white and yellow bass can be caught in the Big Cypress River channel using small spoons and tail spinners hopped off the bottom. Crappie fishing is great using shiners and jigs. Most are being caught inside the pads lining the Big Cypress in 4-7 ft. of water.

The lake is slowly falling and is at about 169.22 as of today, normal pool is 168.50. Water temps are ranging from 55-62 degrees and most of the lake is stained.
Bass are good on a variety of lures like rattletraps and Cyclone Lightnin' Blades over the open water grass are producing and many times you may find the bass(males) stacked in these areas. Some good Trap colors to try are tequila, red, or shad colors in the stained water.
A V&M Super Hightail around the cypress in colors of watermelon, black/blue, or black/red have been catching some good sized bass when fished in 4-6 ft. of water. Watermelon flukes like the V&M Pork Shad fished over the open grass is picking up some decent bass also.
Crappie are fair. Most can be caught up the main channel above the ditch using small jigs off the bottom around laydowns and boat docks.

Water temps are ranging from 78-85 and the lake is at normal levels. Early in the day small topwaters like pop r's and torpedo's fished along the boat docks in the river channel above Uncertain have been working well. With the water on the rise try fishing a white/chartreuse or white/blue spinnerbait in the current around the cypress and grassbeds. Most of our bites have been coming on dark colored senko and fluke type baits fished in and over the grass. Weedless frogs over the heavy vegetation and flukes and worms around the scattered vegetation have worked over the past few weeks also. White bass are running in the Buzzards Bay and Little Green Break areas and can be caught using rattletraps and spinnerbaits in colors of white or chrome.

Took the 4 year old out for a fun day on the water. Fished a 200 yard stretch without a bite. Once we made the corner it was on, same bank, go figure! Caught 26 sac-a-laits, 6 bass, 1 stripper, and a hand full of blue gill. All fish caught on blue and white tube jig topped with crappie nibbles 1 1/2 foot under cork. Little Man had a great day on the water! He said "I love to come to work with you"!! Gotta love it! Good Luck Fishin"!

Made a trip with good friend Gavin Maxwell in search for some Redfishing locations. Right away we started catching bass, wasn't long and we forgot all about the Reds. Put together a limit of bass and released a dozen more. All fish caught on humdingers right on the bank. Good Luck Fishin'!

David Smart from Brecksville, Oh and his father joined me today for one EXTREMELY WINDY DAY! Our plans were to get on some reds in the ponds but mother nature had other plans for us. Hunkered down with shrimp on bottom. Caught a nice mess of keepers. Drum and sheephead with plenty to throw back. Thanks guys for great company. Good Luck Fishin'!

Lake Chicot Drawn Down for Bridge Repairs

VILLE PLATTE – Visitors to Chicot State Park are advised that lake levels will be drawn down, beginning in early September, in order for the Dept. of Transportation & Development (DOTD) to perform routine bridge inspection and repairs during the first two weeks of October.
Initial inspections of the bridge that crosses the Walker Branch cove, on North Landing Road in Chicot State Park, has shown that a number of pilings on the bridge are due for repair. Following the Labor Day weekend, DOTD will open the control structure on the lake and allow the water level to recede 3 to 4 inches per day. Starting Sept. 20, the lake will be closed to fishing during the drawdown in accordance with Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries largemouth bass length limits.
Repair time on the bridge pilings is anticipated to take 2 weeks, once the lake is drawn down to a suitable working depth and the mud line is dry enough to work on. After all repairs are completed and when water levels begin to rise and boaters have safe access to the lake, fishing in Lake Chicot will be re-opened.
Overnight guests with reservations at Chicot State Park during this period can contact Customer Service at 1-877-226-7652 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-877-226-7652 end_of_the_skype_highlighting for more information.
