Hunting Dog Retrieval Bill Close in Georgia

    April 29, 2008 (Georgia)

The signature of the Governor is the last hurdle facing additional protections for sportsmen and their hunting dogs in Georgia.

Senate Bill 16, making it illegal to remove a dog’s tracking collar without the consent of the dog owner, passed the Senate and the House of Representatives on April 4 with overwhelming support. The bill now awaits the approval of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue.

The bill makes intentional removal of a tracking collar a misdemeanor and requires restitution for the value of the dog and any associated veterinary expenses if the dog is lost or killed as a result of the removal of the collar.
