Back to the Beach. Things are getting back to normal here in Shell Beach. Barry was just a minor annoyance, and the water only came up enough to put a little mud on the docks. It must have been enough to get the Redfish excited though. No trout reports yet, but the Redfish are going nuts in the marsh. I have Wednesday and Thursday open and the winds and weather looks great. You have been cooped up inside too long, so book one or both of these days and let’s rip some lips.

Breezy day two in Shell Beach. Tuesday was day two for Forrest and Robert. We tried to get on the trout early like the day before, but the winds were just too high. We managed to put 12 good trout in the box, before giving up on the trout. We hit the marsh to look for reds and it started out a little slow, but like the flick of a switch they turned on and we limited out and released a lot more. Another successful meat haul for the boys from Monroe.

The Speckled Trout bite has been good outside deep in the Sound when conditions permit, but the Redfish have been really hot and consistent in the marsh. Speckled Monday at Shell Beach. Forrest Fife brought Monroe radio personality Robert DjWorm Jarvis down for his first taste of the salt marsh. We started out looking for trout and got on a good bite right off the bat. The trout were mixed in size with plenty throwbacks to weed through, but the keepers were really nice. The bite got interrupted briefly by a large drum that Robert beat into submission. We had 55 trout on ice when things slowed down so we made a move to a shoreline and the guys picked off 8 nice reds to top off the box. Fun day of fishing with more to come for day two.

    Dularge Guide Trip

Yesterday I hired a guide to get to learn the Dularge area, which I really haven’t fished before. The guide service was Bayou Guide service which has a very good reputation for catching trout and redfish. Captain Bill Lakes heads up 5 boats. Captain Brady was the guide assigned to me and it was just us two for this trip. I was forewarned that the fishing had recently been off and I could reschedule, but I declined, because I really wanting to learn the area. Weather was extremely calm and awfully hot and the tide was not productive. Fishing the outer coastal areas, we got into a good trout bite, but it was short-lived and we had to move around a lot, picking off a trout or two here and there. We used only various swim baits both on corks and tight line. The gafftopsail cats were intermittently interrupting our efforts. All in all we had a good trip, catching one limit of trout, which is 25 trout. We threw back a good bit of undersized fish.

One of those days at the Beach. Tuesday I had Oneofthepack and Big Leon on the Blazer Bay. Our goal was to fish deep in the Sound for trout. The wind was a little more than forecast, but not too bad. We made several moves and covered a lot of water. We got on a fast trout bite, with more throwbacks than keepers, but the keepers were nice. The sharks were out in force at a few stops, giving us some thrills. Still it was a fun day on the water with a couple of great guys.

Reds on the Beach. I picked Kevin Rome and 4 of his friends in Fort Beauregard. It was a little too breezy to chase trout outside, so to the marsh we headed. Things started out a little slow, picking up a few keepers, but mostly rat reds. Made a couple of moves and got on a good bite that filled the box with pretty reds. Limits of reds and a great time had by all.

Thursday at the Beach I had the pleasure of fishing with Tommy and Quinn Morrison. The guys wanted to chase Redfish in the marsh and it was a good call. At our first stop we got on a good bite that picked up as a rain shower passed over. It seemed like the fish liked the rain, because when it stopped the bite slowed down. After that shower passed the wind really kicked up. We bounced around a couple other spots getting on another good bite, before calling it a day with limits of Reds and a few Bass.

Wednesday Shell Beach meat haul. Forrest Fife brought his buddy Sean Stuckey down to The Beach from Monroe, LA for his first inshore trip. Sean has done plenty fishing, but not inshore saltwater. Funny thing is we caught plenty familiar freshwater along with limits of Reds. There was lots of action all day long to go with the cutting up. Fun day on the water and a full box with 15 Reds, 10 Stripers, 4 Bass, and 9 Sheepshead.

Speckled trout Tuesday in Shell Beach. Today I had Dr Steve Slaton and family onboard. They really wanted Trout, so we gave that a try first. The wind made things a little sporty, but the trout did not care today. Campo’s live shrimp under 4-Horsemen corks put 82 trout on ice, along with a couple of Reds that were let go. It was a fun day on the water with a fun family.

    Delacroix Mixed Bag Slam

Peter and I left out of Delacroix this morning under clear skies and calm winds armed with live and fresh shrimp. Alligator Pass was out first stop and there was nothing happening in the area including not seeing many alligators as we normally would. We left that area and headed toward Oak River via the Pencil pipeline where we got into not-stop redfish and plenty white bass. Carolina rig was the ticket baited with live or fresh shrimp. We threw back many under sized redfish, but limited out on them. The box at end of trip boasted 40 white bass, 3 black bass, 4 freshwater cats and 1 large flounder. River water abounded throughout the whole area, evidenced by the freshwater species aforementioned. There were only a few boats out today in comparison to prior trips here.
