Good catch dear. The size of the fish is quite big and the video that you share in this post is really awesome. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Everyone
I wanted to take a moment and tell you about our recent fishing charter in Punta Cana. The deep-sea fishing that we do with Big Marlin Charters is not hard at all. It is easy, fun and spectacularly beautiful. It is very safe & female friendly. So, if you have any concerns as a woman that you could not handle what is needed to enjoy this super fun excursion, I want to assure that you can. I have a very experienced deck hands that will be right by your side to make sure that you get and have as much fun as it is possible. If we get lucky and we find lots of fish the trip can be really exciting and if you want a more relaxed time you can lie in the sun with a cold drink and some tasty sandwiches.
I recently booked a charter with 2 clients, both women, Joanna and Cathy. It is unusual to have an offshore deep sea fishing with just women. But I want to assure you that it is perfectly normal. I wish we had more, it is so much fun, easy and safe to do. Let me tell you how it went.
We all got on board and I gave them my routine safety speech and short tour of the boat. We had only a little chop, maybe 3 feet+/-. It was a beautiful sunny calm day.Click image for larger version.

I know a spot that always has good Mahi Mahi fishing in Punta Cana. Those fishing spots are all marked on our boats navigation systems. I like 740 Garmin. So, I always know exactly where we are. These fish are also known as Dorado. They are truly beautiful and interesting, they are very athletic with long thin body. Mahi Mahi almost look like they are fluorescent, unreal, out of this world. You can watch them coming up toward the yacht and they look like a blue-green light bulb. Really pretty, almost hypnotic to watch. Not to mention how tasty they are, cooked Dominican style in a local on the shore restaurant on the beach. One of the ladies was ready to go, she was excited and couldn’t wait to get some on the line. The other seemed to be more interested in getting some sun than getting some fish. It’s all good, It’s lazy Dominican Time. Do what you want. On our fishing boat Fortuna 42’ there’s place for both.
The fishing is always better when we have a little chop, waves of 4-5 ft. are just perfect. The bait always behaves more like a live fish, breaking the water, jumping and splashing. This attracts more fish. It is always beautiful to be on the ocean, but it is much more exciting when we can hook some fish. This day was a quiet day, the ocean was taking a rest.
It was quiet for a couple of hours, no Mahi Mahi, lots of sun, but no fish. Magic spells Fishy Fishy Fishy not work today) As we were chatting about something we suddenly heard the left side reel began bussing loudly. That meant we got a fish. I love that sound, it is always so exciting to hear. The best symphony from Peen Reel 80 ! I got to the reel quickly and let the fish run without about 2 yards of line, then I stopped it suddenly which really sets the hook. Then we know that we really have hooked the fish. Then I let the fish run again. If you have a short line a serious fish will break it easily. The fish took about half reel the line in less than 5 seconds. This is very fast. This was a big fish. I wanted to make sure we had the hook set deeply, so I stopped the line suddenly and pulled the rod at the same moment. Immediately I was pulled to the boat rail. This was a big strong fish. It is a great feeling when you hook a fish like that, the rod is bent, the line is taut, no slack, no give at all. The line looks like it will break if you touch it.
Joanna and Cathy were both really interested and excited, but they were not sure what to do and so we were there to assist them. I had to really work this fish, he was really strong. With a lot of effort and all my strength I finally got the rod back into the fishing chair and rod holder. My 1 st mate, Vladimir was a big help. We knew with a fish this strong it had to be a Blue Marlin.
We realized that neither Joanne nor Cathy would be able to bring this fish into the boat by themselves. Vladimir and I would have to help. So, Joanne got in the chair and Vladimir and I helped her with the rod. Joanne worked the reel by herself. You have to pull the rod back and then release some of the tension to reel some of the line in. Slowly but surely you bring the fish in closer to the boat that way. Joanne did a great job and had a great time. We were all very excited and yelling.
After about 20 minutes the fish gets tired. It just cannot keep this type of effort up for long. We saw his fin break the surface first. I grabbed the gaff, which is a big hook on a pole. I hooked him with that and Vladimir and I pulled him abroad. Really a great catch, one of my best ever. Big strong Blue Marlin and a very exciting time for everyone. Really fun! Joanna and Cathy were so happy with the entire trip. They promised they would do fishing again in Punta CanaClick image for larger version.

Hello to fishermen's from sunny Dominican Republic, Punta Cana. To everybody who likes fishing for Marlin. And deep sea fishing.
December 26th 2015 I had a luck of meeting an interesting fisherman Mr.Ali and his family. They booked private fishing charter from my company for 6 hours.
I picked them up with our minivan bus at 7 am and already by 7.30 am we were leaving marina Jelly Fish for the open sea and fishing.
Mr.Ali and his son made themselves comfortable on the cockpit waiting for the fish. His wife Amanda was suntanning on the fly bridge. It was clear from the beginning that she's not interested in fishing. Maybe for better. Sometimes women and fishing are not compatible.
The ocean was calm that day, there were no waves. The wind was eastern and not strong and didn't get in the way of using all the lines on the reels.
We started on the Macao direction. In one hour left reel swooshed and Mr.Ali pulled aboard barracuda. 10 pounds and 2 feet long not more. In another 20 minutes the right reel worked and Mr.Ali's son pulled up another barracuda. It was a little bigger than the first one. According to men's emotions they liked the action with fishing.
We passed Macao and continued moving towards Ubero Alto. In half an hour upped reel worked. All our reels are Penn International and they are flawless in work. We love Penn. Good and reliable reels made in the USA. It's not some Chinese toy. Mr.Ali easily pulled up Mahi Mahi 15 pounds and 2 feet long. Him and his son were very happy. Than we were escorted by dolphins for a short while. They made Amanda delighted. She was shouting from the top by which side of the fishing boat we could see a dolphin. Later the dolphins stayed back and didn't interfere with our fishing.
Approximately at 12.30 near Macao while we were moving towards Punta Cana already, suddenly our left reel started swishing loudly and the rod bent in the semicircle. 1st Mate stopped reel's friction and immediately let go so the hook gets stuck in fish better. Mr.Ali got into the fighting chair and started pulling the fish up. In few seconds we've seen how the fish made a stand as Marlins usually do. Mr.Ali very carefully was pulling the rod towards himself and reeling the line. When he felt the line got too tight he let go and pulled up a bit later.
The Captain was moving the boat reverse towards Marlin. When Mr.Ali got tired, his son got into the chair and started pulling Marlin up. He fought it over 40 minutes. We got the fish with gaff hook and pulled it aboard. It was a blue Marlin 180 pounds. Of course it was not a very big blue marlin. But Mr.Ali and his son were very happy.
We invite you to experience same excitement of catching big game fish with us. Those emotions are unforgettable and story of your fishing trips will stay with you a lifetime.
Our boat is perfect for every need a fisherman might have, we make sure everyday, before every single trip that you will be comfortable and ready to catch a big one.
Looking forward to welcoming you on board!

"From Justin 23 Nov. 2015 Punta Cana. Dominican Republic."
I have found this Big Marlin Charters fishing company on Tripadvisor page Punta Cana. Inquired with Cap. Yustas we agreed on a time and couple days later I was picked up at 7:00 form the resort.
I want to mention that I'm not a really experienced fisherman but a dream of mine (as well as everyone's lol) would be to snag a blue marlin. The trip to the marina took around 30 min. since my resort was in Ubero Alto and that takes a bit to to get to Punta Cana. During the drive we chatted with Yustas a little bit more about Dominican life and fishing of course. It turns out he is from Poland and has been living her for 4 years now. Once we arrived the conditions looked perfect with a sun out and very calm seas. It would a bit of different story once we got beyond the reef. It took us about 10 mins to get through the channel out to the open water. I was a little woried about getting seasick but once out there, there was bit more wake but I focused on the fishing. In a bout 30 mins I heard the real and it took me about 5-7 min to pull in a about a 20 pound barracuda. This was my first barracuda catch, ugly fish with many teeth and probably not recommended to eat as the captain mentioned. As we were chattin about Domincan culture with some local music in the background the next reel started spinning like crazy. I fought it for about 20 min and as I was reeling it in closer Yustas said it was big Wahoo. Once we got it in it turned out to be a solid 50 pounder at around 5 feet long! In the next hour we caught 3 Mahi Mahis which came in at around 15-20 pounds. Smaller than the Wahoo of course but beautiful fish they are. Over all I had a great time in the four hours that I booked, Yustas is a great guy to go fishing with and has a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding waters. Highlight of the day was of course the 50 pound Wahoo, it was an amazing experience reeling this guy in. Biggest fish I caught to date, thank youguys this is my first experience fishinig Punta Cana.

Hi to everybody from Boca Chica!
For those who don't know what it is - its a small tourist town on the Caribbean sea between Santo Domingo and Juan Dolio.
On the map of the Dominican Republic you can find it exactly in the South. There aren't as many attractions as in Punta Cana, except maybe for many "chicas" walking the streets in the evening and offering a massage for just a few bucks. But Caribbean sea can't exist without fishing. Our fisherman's boat Ocean Super Sport 42' as well as our team loves fishing and we do it often.
Yesterday we hosted two American guys from Santo Domingo who work there in some company with a contract, they arrived themselves from the capital. I have also brought a happy just married Polish couple from Juan Dolio who are here for their honeymoon. I don't remember exactly which resort they have been staying at exactly, by they haven't been fed up with each other yet and looked pretty happy. We had on board also my sister with my nephew, 6 y.o. We all were in great mood with one mutual desire for successful fishing!
We left the Marina at 7:30am and set course south with a speed of 20 knots to arrive to the fishing location as early as possible. After 12 miles we checked with our Garmin and realized we have arrived so we began trolling. In 5 minutes, after all the rods have been set up and outriggers opened wide the fishing began. First Mahi Mahi was 16 pounds. It was brought to the boat easily.
Our Captain caught the current with the Sargasso seaweed and started to take the boat more south. Next Mahi Mahi about 20 pounds fought unsuccessfully with our Penn reels and were easily brought on board. It was becoming hot and we all were having fun! The anglers running from one singing line to another, speaking different languages still perfectly understood by emotions. As a result our catch was 9 Mahi Mahi and 1 Tuna, caught by the youngest angler of our team. Back in the Marina we shared the catch, part of it was cooked for us right there at the Marine Makey restaurant and honestly to say there's nothing more delicious than fresh fish, just caught and cooked by a good chef.
This was one of our shared charters. Tomorrow we are headed for a Private charter full day, because like I said before our boat and our crew we all love fishing! If you appear to be in the Dominican close to Santo Domingo or Juan Dolio - come with us! Its great fun, its not expensive and its very safe.

Default 2nd year Billfishing with Mike in Punta Cana

2nd year fishing with Mike by Joseph Boccelli, Joselitao Lopez and Dante Vargas.

The reason why I returned to Mike's Marina is that I really get to enjoy myself.
I don't have to worry about anything. I don't have to worry about getting to my hotel from the airport. The hotel accomodations are really nice and the people are friendly. The location is pretty. I had fun hanging out at the bar where I met new people.

The fishing was a blast. Besides the fishing drinks and snacks were provided. As I said, I didn't have to worry about anything. All I had to do was relax and have a great time.
And Mike is a really great guy!

My wife and I just wanted to report back on our experience we had fishing with Mike’s Marina. The pressure to go fishing with other companies is great. Everyone wants you to go fishing with them and they will lower their rates to make it very tempting. However, we took the advice from Pete’s web site “Punta Cana Information Guide” to only go with Mike’s Marina even if they hold to a higher price. We are so glad we did. While the other fishing companies may take you for a fun trip out into the ocean, Mike’s Marina employ dedicated fishermen who want to catch a fish just a much as you do. We were there to catch fish and with Mike’s you get what you pay for. If we wanted a fun tour of the ocean we would have booked the sunset cruise with the Hotel. We are proud to say that Mike’s did what they setout to do. We caught in just a 4 hour trip: a dorado and a huge blue marlin (192” and 180Lbs). The experience was one we will never forget and made our first trip to the Dominican absolutely legendary. My sincere thanks to the crew aboard the Shekinah (Manuel and Catch) as well as everyone at Mikes Marina that where so accommodating, helpful and professional. We will go with Mike’s the next time we go back to Punta Cana and know that we will have a wonderful experience as a result.

Just a tip to a the skeptics: If you’re still not sure which fishing company to go with just spend a few days on the beach, as I did, watching the fishing boats come in. When a fishing boat catches a fish the crew will proudly put a small color-coded flag up to indicate what and how many fish were caught on that particular trip. You’ll notice a trend as I did. Mikes ships are pretty much the only ones with flags coming in to the marina with very few exceptions. The hotel bookings never reported success during my two week stay.

I wanted to send a note about my great experience fishing with Mike in Punta Cana. I had a great time and was very impressed with the all of the services that Mike provided. Mike took care of every little detail from picking up and dropping off at the airport, letting me use his computer for emailing at his office, picking me up and dropping me off for fishing, taking great pictures and emailing them too me after the trip, and making himself available to make my experience as enjoyable as possible. The fishing was great also! I had a blast fishing with Mike, Captain Manuel, and mate Catch. They were all friendly, accommodating, very knowledgeable, and professional. I think they were more excited than me (which I didn't think was possible), when I caught my first ever marlin. I can't wait to come back!

Default white Marlin and Blue Marlin and Dorados by John Goodrich

    Mike's Marina Fishing Charters John
    June 2007

My son and I recently took a trip along with his friend and his father to punta cana specifically to charter a boat for a fishing trip. After reviewing numerous charter options I chose Mike from Mike's Marina to service us for three days of fishing for white and blue marlin. Mike assured me that he would take care of transportation to and from airport/hotel and to the charter boat.

From the moment we arrived off the plane Mike and his driver Richard were there awaiting our arrival. Without hesitation we loaded our bags and were off on a safe ride to our resort. Not once were we dissapointed with the transportation, his drivers were always on time from the beginning to the end of our trip in Punta Cana.

We charted one of Mike's 42 foot boats for three days with the same captain and first mate throughout. Like all of Mike's workers they were very friendly and accomodating, speaking English to us and making sure that we were comfortable. Within three beautiful days on Mike's boat we caught Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Mahi Mahi.

All four of us were totally satisfied with Mike's service. We are now planning another trip to Punta Cana to again fish with Mike's Marina in a Blue Marlin Fishing Tournement in August. I would recommend Mike's Marina to anyone looking to go fishing in Punta Cana. Whether you are looking to take just a days trip out on one of the boats or planning your trip around fishing, Mike's Marina is your best bet. Not only did he provide us with an outstanding and successful fishing experience but he was even there to show us around beautiful Punta Cana after hours.
