Bass fishing is Fair and some Bass have started staging on main lake and secondary points and riprap banks in the bays, Rat L Traps and the New Gizz4 crankbait are awesome baits to catch these aggressive staging Bass. Flipping a 3/8 ounce, brown crawfish pattern jig on riprap banks in the bays as the sun warms the rocks is a good technique to catch these prespawn fish. Spotted bass can be caught in Little River on any deep rocky banks, a Senko or Zoom 4 inch Ring Worm in green pumkin is working well.
Crappie fishing is Great and good numbers with a lot of limits of fish are being caught spider trolling Jiffy Jigs in 1/16 ounce in colors JJ17, JJ20, JJ25, JJ26 and JJ34 www.jiffyjigs.com on 6 pound test Ande line at .8-1 mph In 8-20 feet of water of the bays of the upper and lower lake. Look for these suspended Crappie with your electronics and adjust your trolling speed untill you get your jigs running within a foot of the depth you see the fish holding. The piers at JR's Marina are producing a lot of Crappie casting jigs and minnows under floats 5-7 feet deep.
Striper fishing is Fair and the Stripers are starting to move up the Coosa River for the spawning run. Fishing live Shad or cut Shad on or near the bottom in the main Coosa River from Poole's Ferry to Mayo's Lock and Dam is a great way to catch these fish as they move up river for the spawn. The warm water discharge from Plant Hammond near the Hwy. 100 bridge always holds some good fish from February thru early March. Trolling a 1/8 or 1/4 ounce jig with a 3 inch grub or sassy shad on 8 or 10 pound test line in the main Coosa River from Poole's Ferry to Mayo's Lock and Dam is a great way to catch the smaller 2-6 pound schooling stripers.
Catfish are biting Great. Catfish are being caught all over the lake. Target the marinas where all the crappie are being cleaned as the discarded waste draws in the big Blue cats. The docks at JR's Marina are producing some 20-50 pound Blues and a few Flatheads on Crappie heads most every night. Make sure to use a good quality fishing line I suggest Ande line in at least 25 pound test. These big Catfish are strong and will fight very hard in the cooler winter months.

Bass fishing is Poor and the Bass have moved out to deeper water on the old river channels and main lake points, Carolina Rigs,Jigging Spoons, Drop Shot Rigs and 1/2-3/4 ounce double willow leaf Spinner Baits in chartreuse and white slow rolled are all good winter baits. Spotted bass can be caught in Little River on any deep rocky banks, a Senko worm in green pumkin is working well. Always remember that in winter the colder the water the slower you should fish !
Crappie fishing is Good and good numbers of fish are being caught on the main Coosa River ledges from Riverside Campground to Three mile Creek, bumping bottom in 11-14 feet of water with live minnows and Jiffy Jigs. Tight lining a 1/16 or 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig in color JJ17 on the upper Coosa river ledges is catching fish also. The upper Coosa river is also producing some decent catches of crappie in the log jams and behind any structure that creates a current break. Fishing a minnow on a slip float 6-10 feet deep behind the log jams is always a great way to load the boat with some slab Crappie from Weiss Lake. The piers at JR's Marina are producing a lot of Crappie casting jigs and minnows under floats 5-7 feet deep. The bumping bottom technique is a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce bell sinker tied to your main line then come up 12 to 16 inches above the weight and tie a eagle claw snelled hook in size 1 or 2 style # 127 to the main line, come up another 12 inches and tie on a Jiffy Jig in colors JJ13 and JJ17, fish this rig 1 to 2 feet above the bottom on the edge of the old Coosa River channel in the Riverside Campground area down river to Three Mile Creek.
Striper fishing is Fair and the Stripers are on the edges of the the old river channels and major flats of the Coosa River and Little River. Yellow Creek is also producing some good fishing. A 4 inch curly grub in chartreuse glitter or a 3 1/2 Sassy Shad in pearl or chartreuse glitter on a 1/4 ounce jig head trolled at 1 to1 1/2 mph on 12-15 pound test Ande line . Target the area from the Cedar Bluff bridge down river to Yellow Creek and up into the Little River and Chattooga River arms. Target any of the deeper road beds, humps and points in the deeper flats and any point that meets the old river channels. The Coosa River above the Highway 68 bridge to Cowan Creek is also producing some fish.
Catfish are biting Great. Catfish are being caught all over the lake. Jug fishing in the flats of the main lake is a sure way to load the boats with some nice fish. Use live bream, cut bait, whole crappie heads or any kind of stink bait. Fishing the main Coosa river channel with cut bait, right below the Cedar Bluff bridge is producing some big Blue Cats, any of the deeper holes on the main Coosa River will hold large Catfish thru the winter months.

There are very few boat ramps that are usable on Weiss Lake, Most of the private owned ramps are without water, the ramp at JR's MARINA is still ok and owner Jason Tucker said he would do what repairs are needed to keep a boat ramp in operation thru the fall and winter.
The public ramp on Hwy 9 is still usable and the public ramp in the canal in Leesburg is still usable. The ramp at the Weissmart Marina is still usable although it has a drop off. Yellow Creek ramp is still usable to smaller boats due to a hole in the ramp. Rooster's in Cowan Creek still has a ramp open but it is almost impossible to get across the old road bed that separates Cowan Creek from the Coosa River channel. Riverside Campground has improved their ramp for low water use but it is still hard to load and unload.

Bass fishing is Great and the largemouth are shallow in the back of the bays of the lower lake and upper lake. Work shallow brush, stumps and docks in 2-5 feet of water with a shallow running crank bait like the Gizz 4 in green back and chartreuse back and the Bandit 100 series. Watch for Shad working the surface in the backs of the bays and work these areas good. Double willow leaf blade spinner baits in chartreuse and white are producing some good fish also. Work these baits on 12-14 pound test line with a 6 1/2 or 7 foot medium action All Pro crank bait rod. Spotted Bass are being caught on the Coosa, Little river and Chattooga river channel ledges in 5-10 feet of water, Carolina rigs and Drop Shot rigs are working well.

There are very few boat ramps that are usable on Weiss Lake, Most of the private owned ramps are without water, the ramp at JR's MARINA is still ok and owner Jason Tucker said he would do what repairs are needed to keep a boat ramp in operation thru the fall.
The public ramp on Hwy 9 is still usable and the public ramp in the canal in Leesburg is still usable. The ramp at the Weissmart Marina is still usable although it has a drop off. Yellow Creek ramp is still usable to smaller boats due to a hole in the ramp. Rooster's in Cowan Creek Still has a ramp open. Riverside Campground has improved their ramp for low water use but I have been getting a lot of reports that it is still hard to load and unload. We are working with the state of Alabama and Alabama Power to get some boat ramps repaired so everyone can still come fish Weiss Lake. I will report every week on lake conditions and the progress of repairs to the ramps !

Bass fishing is Good. The largemouth are shallow in the back of the bays of the lower lake. Work shallow brush and stumps and docks in 2-5 feet of water with a shallow running crank bait like the Gizz 4 in green back and chartreuse back and the Bandit 100 series. The upper Coosa river is also producing some good fish, look for the fish in the mouth of any ditch, channel or creek that cuts off of the main Coosa river channel some are also being caught in the back of the bays here also. Double willow leaf blade spinner baits in chartreuse and white are producing some good fish also. Work these baits on 12-14 pound test line with a 6 1/2 or 7 foot medium action crank bait rod. Spotted Bass are being caught on the Coosa, Little river and Chattooga river channel ledges in 5-10 feet of water, carolina rigs and crank baits are working well.
Crappie fishing is fair. The fish are on the main Coosa River ledges and a few are starting to be caught on the Little River creek channel ledges, look for more fish to start moving into Little River over the next several weeks. Bumping bottom in 11-14 feet of water with live minnows and Jiffy Jigs is producing some awesome fishing. Shooting docks that are on the main Coosa River channel with a 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig in color JJ13 is still producing some good catches. The upper Coosa river is also producing some decent catches of crappie in the log jams and behind any structure that creates a current break. The bumping bottom technique is a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce bell sinker tied to your main line then come up 12 to 16 inches above the weight and tie a eagle claw snelled hook in size 1 or 2 style # 127 to the main line, come up another 12 inches and tie on a Jiffy Jig in colors JJ13 and JJ17, fish this rig 1 to 2 feet above the bottom on the old Coosa River channel in the Bay Springs and Yellow Creek area.
Striper fishing is fair. The Stripers are on the edges of the the old river channels of the Coosa River and a few are starting to show up in Little River. Live Gizzard shad fish on a down line 8-10 feet deep over the edges of the river channels is always great technique. A 4 inch curly grub in chartreuse glitter on a 1/4 ounce jig head trolled on 12 pound test line over the river ledges is also producing some good stripers.
Catfish are biting Good. Catfish are being caught all over the lake. Jug fishing in the flats of the main lake is a sure way to load the boats with some nice fish. Use live bream, cut bait, whole crappie heads or any kind of stink bait. Fishing the main Coosa river channel with cut bait, right below the Cedar Bluff bridge is producing some big Blue Cats. The docks at JR's Marina are producing some 30-50 pound blues on Crappie heads every night night.

Bass fishing is Great. The largemouth are shallow in the main lake and in the back of the bays. Work main lake points, road beds, humps and flats near the main river channels with shallow running crank baits like the Gizz 4 in green back and chartreuse back and the Bandit 100 series. Look for flats with shad working the surface near the main river channels in the main lake from the Cedar Bluff bridge to the powerhouse lake. The upper coosa river is also producing some good fish, look for the fish in the mouth of any ditch, channel or creek that cuts off of the main Coosa river channel. Double willow leaf blade spinner baits in chartreuse and white are producing some good fish also. Work these baits on 12-14 pound test line with a 6 1/2 or 7 foot medium action crank bait rod. Spotted Bass are being caught on the Coosa river channel ledges in 5-10 feet of water, carolina rigs and crank baits are working well. Tournaments over the weekend were seeing a lot of 15-18 pound stringers with very few boats not able to weigh in 5 fish limits.
Crappie fishing is Great. The Crappie fishing has been great over the last week. The average daily catch has been 40-60 keepers. The upper Coosa river is also producing some decent catches of crappie in the log jams and behind any structure that creates a current break. Come on over to Lake Weiss Alabama and get in on some awesome fall crappie fishing !
Striper fishing is Fair. The White Bass and smaller Stripers in the 1-3 pound range are working the shad on the surface early in the flats of the main lake in the morning and late in the evening. When you see these fish working the surface any small spinner like a yellow Rooster Tail or Mepps spinner will catch these active fish. A 3 inch Sassy Shad in white on a 1/4 ounce jig head will also work well. Fish these on Light spinning tackle with 6lb test line for some great fun.

Bass fishing is Good. The bass have moved shallow in the main lake due to the falling water and low oxygen levels in the deeper water.
