Here's an invention that's literally
a lifesaver when mooring to offshore structures: EZ Rig Hook, strong,
light and dependable offshore
hooking device that allows you to hook your boat to fixed objects such
as offshore rigs or wharves without causing damage to your boat or
yourself. These rig hooks come in three different sizes depending on
your needs: heavy, medium, and light duty.
The EZ Rig Hooks are light weight and easy to store.
Standard features include: stainless steel
quick release cable that parallels the main rope via small eyelets
along the rope for non-tangling hook ups, anodized gold hook construction, custom carry bag, & 40
ft. polydac rope. The components
are constructed of noncorrosive materials- not galvanized, so it will last indefinitely, even in humid,
saltwater conditions.

How
to use EZ Rig Hook?
It’s simple. First tie the free end of the rope to your boat, then toss
the hook across a horizontal pipe or frame into the rig and let the current
pull you back. The EZ Rig Hook® will attach every time as long as the
object is horizontal and can fit within the rig hook's opening. It comes assembled
with 40-feet of bowline and a 20-foot stainless steel release cable. Your
craft can easily and safely stay away from the rig with changing
tides and wind conditions.
How
to unhook EZ Rig Hook?
All you need to do is allow for slack in the rope, and then pull the loop on
the 20-foot release cable and it disengages the hook quickly and without
much effort. This is especially helpful when releasing in a hurry, or when
bad weather or darkness limits visibility or access.
How
big is EZ Rig Hook?
The
most popular EZ Rig Hook® is about 25”x 25”x 3” and weighs about 7
lbs. It will store easily under the seat or storage compartment of your
boat. Its lightweight construction makes it easy to use and easy to
transport- unlike the heavy, rust-prone imitations. It comes in 3 sizes: Light, Medium &
Heavy according to your specific boat size weight.
How
to use long handled Conventional
Rig Hook? The
conventional long handled rig hook has been in use for many years and has
been the choice for most charter boat captains and sport fishing
vessels of various sizes. It is light, strong, easy and safe to use, because
unlike the throwable rig hooks, you place this rig hook where you want it by
hand. Simply
motor the boat to the down current side of a structure and have someone
poised at the foremost bow section of the boat to reach out with the long
handle and place the hook section over a horizontal object like a pipe
railing. To remove the rig hook, motor the boat slowly toward the rig hook
while someone at the foremost bow section pulls in the rope until reaching
the handle, at which point the rig hook can be lifted and brought aboard.
The one featured on this site breaks down by unscrewing the sleeve in the middle
for easy
storage.
What
is a Rig Hook rope, shackle & snubber mooring kit?
A
rig hook rope mooring kit is very important for relieving stress from both
the rig hook and boat during rough seas. Without it, a rig hook could bend
open and fall off of the object to which it is attached— or worse, pull a
mooring cleat out of the hull. It also diminishes boat jerking when waves
are encountered as the boat pulls against the rope. It works much like a
shock absorber. It is a must for rig hook use, especially offshore! Can be
added to the EZ Rig Hook rope by splicing it together as an extension or
splicing it into the rope near the cable release end.
